Classification of Tequila
Further classification includes- silver or gold tequila. Silver tequila is freshly made tequila while gold
tequila is silver tequila with blended caramel for that rich gold color and id aged for some time.
Reposada is not gold tequila but has a gold hue and is a balanced one at that. It is aged in a chardonnay
barrel for two months to a year. The barrel along with caramel helps in developing the gold hue of the
tequila. It is a perfect balance of two flavors the oak flavor from the ageing and the true strong flavor of
tequila is watered down giving it a nice feel.
Tequila is a name of the town where tequila was first made. It lies in the northwest of Guadalajara, and
in the Jaliscan Highlands (Los Altos de Jalisco) of the central western Mexican state of Jalisco.
Jalisco is the highest producer of tequila in the world.
The blue agave tequila is not an ordinary drink and needs to be had in a special way. Tequila
popularly believed to have in one gulp or one shot is not entirely correct, it was a tradition years ago
but necessarily healthy it can might as well be enjoyed with ice cubes in a glass and sip by sip. The
lemon and salt technique is usually used for harsh tequila to mild it down.
The Reposada tequila comes packed beautifully in a square bottle with a golden cap. The name of
the company and the tequila is etched in the bottle and a yellow label is placed below it holding the
name of the tequila in a fancy font- ‘Jose Cuervo Reposada.’
Bottle and Labeling
The year 1795 is also etched on the bottle to signify the year the company was born. The label also holds
the information that it is made with blue agave and holds 40% alcohol and holds the content volume of
the bottle. Then it holds the company crest on the color red. On the left side of the bottle the word
‘Cuervo’ is etched. The back holds information about the company and the manufacture of the alcohol
and the packaging. The last face of the bottle holds the etched logo of the company which was
rebranded but the old logo is still etched for brand purposes. The back also holds its price approximately
2595 Rupees subject to location.
Texture and Taste
The heavenly nectar inside is of a strong golden hue and the artificial color of caramel is evident. The
smell of agave is quite strong and a note of oak is also present. A sweet feel of vanilla and pepper is also
experienced. To open the flavors further try adding water or ice into the tequila.
The first sip of tequila gives you a strong feel in the mouth and the overpowering agave taste leaves a good essence on the tongue. The
tequila feels a little oily on the palate and the rich flavors of vanilla and cooked and charred agave are a
rich experience. The vanilla note is refreshing .A tint of pineapple and pepper make it a equivocate
drink. All in all it’s a very unique drink.
In the finish it gives a very herbal feel and essence. It does not
have a long finish but lasts enough for a great experience and its strong essence make it a good bye.
