Johnnie Walker Review
The name Johnnie Walker is one of the best known in the world of Scotch. The square bottle,
coloured labels distinguishing the blends. The complex flavors have all combined over the years
to make this Scotch one of the bestselling in the world. The key to Johnnie Walker success is
consistent, beautifully mastered blends. Black Label is a shining example of the art of blending
fine whisky for a reasonable price. In 1820, John Walker began blending whiskies, and in 1909 his
son Alexander brought the family business to a new level by launching an old recipe under a new,
easier name: Black Label.
Overexcited!! Because this is all about Johnny Walker- Black Label also known as India’s most
expensive whiskey. It is most righteously called the drink of the rich. If you’ve ever walked in a bar
you’ve probably seen a Black Label around and you shouldn’t be surprised with over 130 million
packages sold. Not only that but it is the most selling premium Scotch whiskey around the world.
Let’s have a closer look at this bottle of goodness.
Johnny Walker after being one of the best whiskeys of the world can be described as nothing but
smooth and versatile. The whiskey is promised to be 12 years old. This is a blended whiskey with more
than 40 whiskeys blended into it from the finest parts of Scotland. Johnny Walker chooses the best
smoky whiskeys from Isley, a little fruity whiskey from Speyside, floral whiskeys from Highlands and
flavored whiskey from the Lowlands.
The blending of the selected whiskeys is an art and is leaded by a master blender Jim Beverage. Jim
Beverage beautifully blends the alcoholic heaven and year after year brings to us the consistent flavor,
color and texture of Black Label. Johnny Walker Black Label is no easy feat as 12 master blenders come
together to perfect the blend.
Origin Of Name
In 1865 when the whiskey was first blended it was originally named- Old Highland Whiskey that adorned
the bottle on a white label. Johnny Walker went ahead and made better concoctions of the same blend
naming it ‘Special Old Highland Whiskey’ on a red label and ‘Extra Special Old Highland Whiskey’ on a
black label. With similar and complex names of the whiskeys the laymen started referring to it by the
color of the labels making Alexander relaunch the whiskey with changed and better names in 1909-
‘Black Label’ and ‘Red Label.’ The diagonal alignment of the name on the label of the whiskey was
painted to make it stand out. All these small tweaks make Johnny Walker the brand it is today.
Packaging and Price
The packaging that it comes in is a matte black box with the company name and the whiskey named etched in gold. It also states that it is a ‘blended scotch whiskey.’ The striding man is printed in the fancy
structure striding from left to right in black color. It has a ‘12’ embellished with a gold box around it to
signify the 12 year old whiskey and also the 12 master blenders efforts. The volume content of the
bottle is displayed in the bottom left corner. The left side of the box contains loads of information about
the blend as well as the company. A 750ml bottle of Johnnie walker black label typically costs about 5,400 Rupees and may vary in
every city. The top of the box contains the image of the striding man in gold.
The bottle is square shaped and was designed in 1865. The shape gives it an advantage over breakage
and also gives it a unique shape. The bottle has a diagonally placed label with the name and a ‘12’ on the
bottle with a carved striding man. It contains the volume content and the price on the back of the bottle.
The whiskey presents itself in a dark golden color and compared to other whiskeys ‘Black Label’ typically
is always a darker shade. It typically smells smoky and strongly like dry resin. It also gives you a hint of
chardonnay and candy; overall it also has a fruity essence. The smoky smell isn’t really a surprise from all
the single malt blended in the whiskey.
